Maternity Skin Care
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Its an exciting time in your life as a new little person is growing inside your womb. During pregnancy you can experience different changes in your skin due to excess hormones. Some women get a beautiful pregnancy glow, while others experience excessive dry skin and facial acne. I personally, have had two children and currently 8 months pregnant with the third. My skin was HORRIBLE with my first two pregnancies. However, this pregnancy I decided to change a lot of things which have resulted in better skin, no acne, less stretchmarks (so far), and and a thinner figure.
What I discovered is that my eating habits and my excercise habits, and the quality of prenatal vitamins I took had a lot to do with a healthier pregnancy. Prior to this pregnancy, I thought it was ok to indulge in all sorts of junk food, and eat whatever I wanted. This is not the case, and my pregnancy skin and weight suffered because of it. This time around my diet consists of plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. I consume super foods such as maca, which by the way helps to keep your hormones balanced during pregnancy.
Maca has a ton of vitamins and minerals in it to keep your skin, hair, bones, and blood healthy. Its also a great source of Iron for people who are anemic. I buy my maca from Vitacost.com for around $18.00 and it has lasted me almost my entire pregnancy.
Coconut Oil is another "MUST" for pregnant moms. Not only do I spread it on my ever expanding tummy and hips, but I also consume 2 - 3 TBS a night ( usually add it to my tea). It helps to keep your skin well moisturized from the inside out. It will also give you energy and helps to balance your hormones as well. Coconut oil has antibacterial, anti viral, and anti fungal properties.
My lotions and bath soaps that I use are all 100% natural and organic. Did you know that formaldehyde is found in most cosmetics, lotions, soaps, shampoos, and conditioners? Did you know that not only does it seep into your blood stream and cause health problems and skin problems for you, but it is also known to pass through the placenta to your developing baby and through recent reports they have linked toxins in your every day skin care and hair products to acne, developmental problems, miscarriages, neurological problems, HDHD, and autism. I highly suggest a product called Renew, it is sold through melaleuca and is all natural and organic. My skin feels wonderful and its not expensive and highly concentrated. Its even safe to use on your baby's skin as well.
In conclusion, increasing your fruits and vegetables, taking your prenatal vitamins, and using safer and natural skin care products will help you achieve a beautiful well moisturized pregnancy body.
